Abstract
Along with the wide spread of personal computers and the Internet, people are spending increasing amount of time looking at their computer screens. However, excessive use of the Internet may cause dry eye syndrome. The ocular surface of dry eye syndrome may result in permanent damage. Several diagnosis methods for dry eye have been proposed, but their results is highly subjective and lack reliability. In this study, we propose a novel corneal erosion detection method based on background subtraction, CLAHE (Contact limited adaptive histogram equalization) and DoG (Difference of Gaussian) for the diagnosis of dry eye syndrome. The proposed method can differentiate the progress of dry eye syndrome by four levels (level 1: 0.89%, level 2: 3.00%, level 3: 5.46%, level 4: 9.94%). We expect that this method allows a reliable, objective diagnosis of dry eye syndrome through an automated detection of erosion areas.
